What We Do
Working in partnership with land owners and local communities, RCE’s team identifies, funds, and develops new projects to supply clean energy to homes, businesses, and other power consumers.
WORKING IN PARTNERSHIP
Successful projects require alignment of interests amongst landowners, communities, policy makers, and businesses. The Ridge team works hard to understand interests and build enduring partnerships.
Before Ridge Clean Energy was established in 2019, the team had developed, constructed, and operated clean energy projects between 2003 and 2013 under RidgeWind. Over this decade, RidgeWind became one of the UK’s largest independent renewable energy developers and is recognised as a pioneer in the UK onshore wind industry.
RidgeWind was responsible for over 100 MW of operational wind assets, more than 60 MW under construction, and in excess of 100 MW in pre-construction by 2013. Beinneun, located near Fort Augustus in the Scottish Highlands, was one of our key projects and the initial 85MW application was one of the quickest Section 36’s to be approved by the Scottish Government.
The RidgeWind team also developed solar and AD (anaerobic digestion) assets in the UK. Here are seven examples of key projects that are operational today across England and Scotland:
Bagmoor Wind Farm
In 2006 RidgeWind received planning permission for Bagmoor Wind Farm. The wind farm is located near Scunthorpe in North Lincolnshire and has a generating capacity of 16 MW. More Information here.
Wandylaw Wind Farm
In 2008 RidgeWind received planning permission for Wandylaw Wind Farm. The wind farm is near Alnwick in Northumberland and has a generating capacity of 20.5 MW. More information here.
Hall Farm Wind Farm
In 2009 RidgeWind received planning permission for Hall Farm Wind Farm. The wind farm is located north-east of Beverley in East Riding of Yorkshire and has a generating capacity of 24.6 MW. More information here.
Nutsgrove Wind Farm
In 2010 RidgeWind received planning permission for Nutsgrove Wind Farm (project now known as Whitemill Wind Farm). The wind farm is located south of Wisbech, near the hamlet of Coldham in Cambridgeshire and has a generating capacity of 14 MW. More information here.
Middlewick Wind Farm
In 2011 RidgeWind received planning permission for Middlewick Wind Farm. The wind farm is 3km east of Southminster in Essex and has a generating capacity of 20.7 MW. More information here.
Beinneun & Beinneun Extension Wind Farm
In 2012 RidgeWind received planning permission for Beinneun Wind Farm comprising 25 turbines. An additional 7 turbines to extend the site were approved in 2015. The wind farm is located near Fort Augustus in the Scottish Highlands and has a capacity of 108.8 MW. More Information here.
Grange Wind Farm
In 2014 RidgeWind received planning permission for Grange Wind Farm. The wind farm is located near Flixborough, North Lincolnshire and has a capacity of 12.3 MW. More information here.
RCE currently have a significant portfolio of renewable energy projects across seven locations throughout the UK.
Our portfolio comprises a range of renewable energy technologies, including Onshore Wind, Solar Photovoltaics and Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS). Some of our projects will consist of a single technology, while others will be a mix of two or three, creating renewable energy parks.
All of our projects are in the development stage, with some undergoing initial site appraisal, and others that have been submitted for planning approval.
More information on individual projects can be found under 'What We Do'.
At Ridge Clean Energy we offer a unique approach within the renewable energy industry by partnering with the local community for the lifetime of the project. And we start our local work years before our projects become operational.
The Ridge Team combines expertise in developing UK renewable energy projects and working with local communities to create enduring local benefits. Our team has a proven track record of creating valuable community assets.
For each renewable energy project, a Community Partnership Coordinator is assigned to build a relationship with key people in the area to identify and develop local ideas that will support the community’s path to Net Zero.
